zencontrol develops smart building technology integrating mobile applications, cloud systems, and connected hardware devices. Our platform supports real-time interaction with lighting control systems and distributed building infrastructure across commercial environments.
We are seeking a Software Engineer with strong mobile and cross-platform development experience to join our Brisbane engineering team.
About the role
This role involves the design, development, testing and maintenance of a commercial cross-platform application deployed across Android, iOS, and desktop environments.
The successful candidate will contribute to systems integrating mobile applications, Bluetooth-enabled hardware, and cloud services, with a focus on reliability, synchronization, and cross-platform software architecture.
You will collaborate closely with software, firmware, and product teams to deliver features used in live smart building environments.
Key responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain shared application code across Android, iOS, and desktop platforms
- Build and maintain user interfaces using modern declarative UI frameworks
- Design and implement scalable application architecture using modern software engineering principles
- Develop and maintain Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communication and device discovery functionality
- Implement synchronization and offline data handling systems
- Integrate applications with backend systems and cloud services using technologies such as gRPC and REST APIs
- Maintain local persistence layers and support cross-platform data consistency
- Participate in code reviews, testing, troubleshooting, and technical design discussions
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across software and hardware domains
- Support knowledge sharing and technical mentoring within the engineering team
Required skills & experience

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline
- Minimum 3 years of professional software engineering experience
- Minimum 2 years of commercial experience with Kotlin and Android development
- Commercial experience developing cross-platform mobile applications (e.g. Kotlin Multiplatform, Flutter, or React Native)
- Strong understanding of asynchronous programming
- Experience integrating mobile applications with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices or comparable hardware systems
- Experience working with modern software architecture and design principle
- Experience with version control systems and collaborative development workflows
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
Highly desirable

- Commercial experience with Kotlin Multiplatform and Compose Multiplatform
- Experience working on IoT, robotics, embedded, or hardware-integrated systems
- Experience with offline-first architectures and synchronization systems
- Experience integrating with gRPC or protobuf-based APIs
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior developers
