Introducing zencontrol ApS in Denmark
zencontrol ApS was established on the 1st of January 2024 by founders Martin and Johan. With a solid background in the lighting and BMS industries, both Martin and Johan aimed to establish a company focused on open standards, state-of-the-art products, and transparency in choosing the right solutions for individual projects.

Meet…Martin
With more than 20 years of experience in the BMS industry, Martin has a solid background in building automation and uses his expertise to assist consultants, integrators, and installers.
Martin’s background in the BMS industry gives zencontrol ApS the capability to understand the needs from an integrator’s point of view. His everyday tasks are diverse, spanning back office work, warehouse management, and sales.
Meet…Johan
With more than 10 years of experience in the lighting controls and emergency systems industry, Johan has a strong background as both a technician and a product manager.
Johan works directly with installers and integrators at a highly technical level, providing market-leading support and education. His tasks cover a wide range, including technical queries, testing, and sales.
Meet…Nikolaj
With more than 15 years of experience in the lighting, lighting controls, and emergency systems industry, Nikolaj works closely with consultants, integrators, and installers.
His day-to-day tasks involve discussing the direct impact of lighting and lighting controls, as well as integration. He also holds responsibilities in sales and marketing.
We caught up with Nikolaj, Sales & Marketing Director, to learn what excites him most about the world of lighting control.
Q. Tell us what inspired you to get into lighting control?
A. Basically, to drive change in our buildings’ energy usage by working on more sustainable solutions for the long run, rather than relying on quick fixes. Given the background all three of us have, we’ve seen the do’s and don’ts, and we feel obligated to guide customers in the “right direction.” Additionally, we aim to make use of the data created in the zencontrol cloud, using it as an enabler and motivator for better decision-making.
Q. What’s your favourite type of project?
A. We don’t really have any preferences, but it’s crucial for zencontrol ApS to foster open discussions on building integration. By utilising the latest available technology and services, we aim to be recognised as market innovators.
Q. What are common specialisations or challenges in lighting/lighting control in your region? How do you overcome them?
A. Our local building regulations (BR18) are often more stringent than in the rest of Europe. This brings a lot of challenges when talking to installers and entrepreneurs, who often choose cheaper solutions if possible. To overcome these challenges, we feel obliged to spread the word in our region regarding building standards, both existing and upcoming, guiding clients to make the smart and more sustainable choice the first time.
Q. In the world of lighting control, what are the team at zencontrol ApS looking forward to in 2024/2025?
A. Pushing the new DALI+ standard to our regions. We need open standards in a rapidly changing world full of automation.
Q. What does zencontrol ApS offer that you can’t find elsewhere?
A. Full scalability, as well as a level of transparency not previously seen in the lighting controls sector before.
Q. What product currently excites you to be able to offer your customers?
A. Actually, the full package excites us, but if we had to pinpoint a product, it would be the smart sensor portfolio. It gives clients the possibility to start with a low budget and expand as needed, while also offering the built-in DALI+ option. That type of functionality is unique in the lighting controls business.
