Many devices can be configured in a way which can affect the overall operation of the device, such as changing how inputs or outputs function or the resolution or mode of the device. There are three main settings which may allow configuration. These settings are arranged as follows.
- Bus Unit Configuration. Contains Device level configurations.
- Operating Mode. Contains Gear or Control device configurations.
- Instance Configuration Mode. Contains specific control device channel (instance) configurations.
Bus Unit configuration
Bus unit configuration is a hardware-level option that determines the operational behaviour of a device. For instance, a switch may have a Bus Unit Configuration (BUC) mode that enables the transformation of two switch inputs into a single combined 4-bit input. It is important to note that configuring the bus unit is typically done as the initial step, as it may impact the availability and functionality of other options on the smart device.
By adjusting the bus unit configuration, users can tailor the device’s functionality to meet their specific requirements, optimizing its performance within the intended system setup. This foundational setting influences the overall behaviour and capabilities of the smart device.
