Multiple targets

To control lighting using a smart device, the device is configured to target specific lighting groups, individual lights, or all lights within a setup. Smart devices have the capability to target up to three different lighting targets, enabling the creation of complex scenarios. By default, the zencontrol express app displays a single set of targets. However, additional targets can be exposed by enabling this feature in the smart settings tab.

When control devices, such as sensors or switches, are targeted at the same group, they can operate in conjunction without requiring extra setup. For instance, if two on/off switches were positioned at opposite sides of a room and directed at the same group, they would function in harmony. This means that when you use the first switch to turn on the lights, the second switch will turn them off, and the LED indicators on both switches will display the status of the lighting, irrespective of which device initiated the group.

Multiple targets

With zencontrol smart devices, it is possible for a device, such as a switch or a sensor to target up to 3 different targets (each). This allows for more complex control scenarios where some groups may be controlled differently by different devices and can give overlapping control.

Moreover, sensors and other products may feature multiple control devices, including PIR sensors, lux sensors, and switch inputs. In such scenarios, the standard operation is for all devices to have their targets linked together, targeting the same group. However, depending on the installation requirements, each component (PIR, lux, or switch) can have its own target, allowing for individual control of different targets.

As an illustration, consider the possibility of setting up the lux sensor to activate group 2 when the light level falls below a specific threshold, while the PIR could be programmed to operate group 1 and the switch could be set up to operate groups 1 & 2.

Below are a few examples where multiple targets could be used.

Example 1: Corridor Hold

You may want to enable corridor hold where while a room is occupied the outside corridor remains on. To achieve this, a smart sensor is installed in the corridor and one in each office. With the zencontrol express APP, the sensors can be configured as follows

  • The hallway sensor is set up to target the hallway group.
  • The room sensor is set up to target the room group and the hallway group.

Example 2

A sensor targets two groups in a classroom, one group is the main lighting, and the second group is the whiteboard lights. The sensor can control and turn off all the lighting, however there is a switch on the wall that has been set up to also control the whiteboard lights. The switch can override the sensors control of the whiteboard lights, but the sensor can turn off the lighting when the room is unoccupied.
